The Cuba Council of Churches Food Pantry Fund, established in 2025 by an anonymous donor, ensures ongoing support for one of Cuba’s most vital community resources.
The donor shared their motivation for establishing the fund, noting “the great work the Cuba Council of Churches is doing to make Cuba a good place to live,” and their hope that each March, the fund will continue to provide resources “to help others in our community who are in need help.”
Located at the Cuba First Baptist Church, the food pantry serves as a lifeline for residents of the Cuba-Rushford School District. As the only food pantry in Cuba, it provides meaningful, dignified support to families facing difficult circumstances.
Under the leadership of Food Pantry Director Claudia Little, the program goes far beyond basic assistance. Each family typically receives 3–4 bags of nonperishable groceries, along with vouchers for food and essential household supplies.
“We are certainly grateful for the anonymous donor,” Little said. “Without people like them, our operations would be so difficult. I hope they understand what a wonderful gesture this is.”
At the Cuba Food Pantry, families are invited to select their own food, helping restore a sense of choice and dignity during challenging times.
“I wish [donors] could see the look on the faces — especially of the children — when they realize they’ll be taking home food they’ve chosen themselves,” Little added.
While classified as an emergency food pantry, the Council takes a thoughtful, long-term approach — working with families to navigate hardship and plan for the future, while also responding to urgent needs such as illness or house fires.
The Cuba Council of Churches is comprised of Our Lady of Angels Roman Catholic Church, Christ Episcopal Church, Cuba First Baptist Church, Cuba Methodist Church, and North Park Wesleyan Church.
The pantry is always in need of donations and continues to welcome support from the community. The Cuba Food Pantry is open by appointment only.
