The Joseph Bucher Fund was established in 2022 as an unrestricted fund supporting organizations throughout Allegany County. This fund is a reflection of the life and legacy of Joseph Bucher.
Joe spent his entire life in Bolivar, and he loved it deeply. President of Bolivar’s Pioneer Oil Museum Kelly Lounsberry said Joe frequently spoke about his pride for Bolivar, its people, and the life he built there. As a 1953 graduate of Bolivar Central School, Joe went on to become a third-generation oil producer, carrying forward both a family tradition and a remarkable work ethic. He was known for working six — and often seven — days a week, dedicating long hours to his craft with steadfast determination.
But Joe’s legacy extends far beyond his profession. His love for community was evident in the generous provisions he made to ensure Bolivar’s future would remain strong. He established a significant scholarship at Bolivar-Richburg Central School to support students pursuing vocational and hands-on career pathways.
Joe was a proud supporter and consultant to the Pioneer Oil Museum, where he remained actively involved (even in his later years) and took great pride in the museum’s growth and preservation of local history.
Today, the Joseph Bucher Fund continues that legacy of community investment. In the past year alone, the Fund has supported the Bolivar Free Library and the Pioneer Oil Museum, among other projects and programs.
As an unrestricted fund, the Joseph Bucher Fund provides flexible support where it is needed most. Because of Joe’s generosity, the community he cherished will continue to grow, thrive, and benefit for generations to come.
