WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF FUNDS?

Unrestricted Funds

Allegany County Fund:
Meeting the changing needs of the community is best met with donations to this fund.  Gifts to this general fund are especially needed at this time.  Income from this fund is awarded to charitable organizations at the discretion of the ACAF Board on the basis of submitted grant applications and available funds.  
 
Thomas F. and Laura L. Moogan Family Fund (1993): 
Endowed by long-time Wellsville residents Thomas F. and Laura L. Moogan, for the purpose of promoting and assisting volunteer charitable and educational organizations throughout Wellsville and Allegany County.
 
Norbert Shear Memorial Fund (2001):
Created by the family of A. Norbert Shear to provide grants to groups serving Allegany County.

Designated Funds

The donor may name a specific recipient (e.g. fire department, library, etc.) when a designated fund is established.  ($5,000 minimum)

Hydramec Fund (1989): 
Created by Hydramec, Inc. to provide financial support for the Scio Free Library.
 
SPCA Serving Allegany County Fund (1998):
Sponsored by the SPCA to provide permanent financial support to the SPCA for the care, shelter and adoption of unwanted or abandoned animals.
 
Doris O. Church Fund (1999):
Established by the family of Doris O. Church to provide financial support for the Andover Public Library. 
 
Cuba Memorial Hospital Fund (2005):
Established by the hospital to provide financial support for the Cuba Memorial Hospital.
 
Education Recognition Fund (2006):
Established by a gift from Paul Drake to provide support for the annual Educator of the Year Program.
 
Conrad and Kathryn Church Landscaping Fund (2007):
Established by a gift from Kathryn Church to provide support for the purpose of maintaing the trees of Andover village in perpetuity.
 
Field-of-Interest Funds
 
The interests of the donor are considered when grants are made from these funds (e.g. youth work).  ($5,000 minimum)
 
 
Scholarship Funds 
 
The donor may specify the criteria for awards to deserving county students.  ($5,000 minimum)
  • Mary A. Bishop Scholarship Fund (1989):  established by the will of Mary A. Bishop to provide scholarships to students residing in Allegany County who demonstrate general merit and need so they can attend the school of their choice.
  • Daniel R. McCarthy Memorial Scholarship Fund (1991):  established by agreement with the Olean Business Institute to provide scholarships for students desiring to attain an associate degree in occupational studies.
  • Lois M. Lilly Scholarship Fund (1994):  established by the will of Lois M. Lilly to provide scholarships to assist worthy residents of Allegany County in attending the college or university of their choice.
  • George and Ella Shear Scholarship Fund (1995):  created by Ella Shear to provide scholarships to graduates of Scio Central School, with preference to students pursuing a career in elementary education.
  • Alfred Wood Scholarship Fund (1997):  established by the will of Alfred Wood to provide scholarship support to worthy students graduation from Cuba-Rushford Central School
  • Kirby L. Jensen Memorial Scholarship Fund (1998):  established by family and friends of Kirby L. Jensen for students graduating from Wellsville Central School pursuing a career in science and technology.
  • William F. Farnsworth Memorial Scholarship Fund (1998):  established by friends of William F. Farnsworth for graduates of Genesee Valley Central School, with preference to students pursuing a career in education.
  • Belva A. Waite Memorial Scholarship Fund (2000):  established by the will of Belva A. Waite for students residing in Allegany County pursuing undergraduate studies based on all-around high school performance.
  • Joseph W. and Inez A. Hupp Scholarship Fund (2002):  created by a bequest from Inez A. Hupp to award scholarships to students graduating from Cuba-Rushford Central School.
  • Walter F. and Louisa A. Sibley Scholarship Fund (2005):  established by the will of Louisa A. Sibley for graduates of Cuba-Rushford School District.
  • Non-Traditional Education Scholarship Fund (2006): established by a gift from a concerned citizen for residents of Allegany County covering up to 75% of the total cost for those seeking to improve their current skills.
  • Dresser-Rand Scholarship Fund (2006): established by a gift from Dresser-Rand for the benefit of children and family of Dresser-Rand Wellsville employees.
  • Edward Brewster Memorial Scholarship Fund (2007): established by the will of Pauline Brewster in honor of her husband Edward to provide scholarships for Whitesville Central School graduates who exhibit a strong work ethic and financial need. 
  • Joseph E. Presutti Memorial Scholarship Fund (2008): established by family and friends in honor of Joe Presutti. Preference for Genesee Valley Central School graduates, those in Public Service and/or Veterans.
  • Marion W. Green Commitment to Community Scholarship Fund (2008): established to encourage students in the Scio Central School District to continue their education. Financial need is considered in making these grants to students that will achieve a degree or cerification within two years.
